Treasure Afghan

TREASURE TUESDAY

I came across this afghan by accident this morning while browsing Red Heart Yarn’s great site:

Isn’t it pretty? It’s called “Granny’s Treasure” and is, in fact, one large granny square throw and measures only 40″x40″. I love the colors in it and the fact that it would be quick to make. Since I make lapghans for an area rehab facility and am always looking for quick and easy throws to make, this one looks ideal. I’m guessing I even have all the colors in my yarn stash.

Can’t wait to get started on it! I’ll try to post progress photos every so often.

01/05/2012 WIP Update:

When I first saw this afghan I thought I had similar colors in my stash, but when I read the pattern more closely I discovered that it called for a particular yarn that I don’t have. Not only that, but the colors I do have don’t exactly match the pattern colors, so I decided to improvise based on what I have on hand.

Here’s what I’ve done so far:

As you can see, the colors are very different but the idea is the same. The purple you see on the outermost round is the last of the pattern colors before starting over again with the first color. The beauty of this is that you can make the afghan as large (or as small) as you want to. What’s not to like about that?

I also love this pattern because it is so easy and quick to work up and I’m guessing I’ll be making this one quite often. Maybe one in shades of pink and another in shades of blue.

I can also see this in gradual color progressions:

♦one all in pastels
♦a primary color one
♦one made up of jewel tones

Oh, the possibilities!

Stay tuned for the photo(s) of the final finished product!
