God’s Peace

--treasure tuesday 001

I haven’t been posting much lately but that’s because I’ve been busy with appointments and things outside my home. And because I can only accomplish so much each day, there’s been a lot of resting time for me.

As I wondered what to share with you now, I noticed my copy of Anytime Prayers for Everyday People. This book was published in 2006 and contains several of my devotionals. When I thumbed through it just now, I noticed a bookmark in the page titled, “When I want to thank God for His peace . . . I will pray.” As I read through it, I can’t describe the feeling of peace that just washed over me. I knew this was what I was supposed to share with you today.

When you live with pain on a daily basis, peace can be elusive. But I have found the only way to be peaceful in any situation and no matter how much I’m hurting. It is very easy to forget things I have written in years past, but I’m thankful that God brings them to my mind when I need them the most.

I hope this speaks to you as it did to me, on a day when I really needed it. That’s my treasure for you (and me!) today.

When I want to thank God for His peace

The punishment that brought us peace was upon him. —Isaiah 53:5

[Jesus said] I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart! And the peace I give isn’t fragile like the peace the world gives. So don’t be troubled or afraid. —John 14:27, TLB

Following after the Holy Spirit leads to life and peace. —Romans 8:6, TLB

Let the peace of heart which comes from Christ be always present in your hearts and lives, for this is your responsibility and privilege as members of his body. —Colossians 3:15, TLB

While they were still talking about this, Jesus himself stood among them and said to them, “Peace be with you.” —Luke 24:36

. . . I will pray

Kindest Lord,

Thanks so much for Your peace. I feel it pouring over me right now, absorbing my problems, clearing my mind, opening my heart to hear Your voice. I don’t know why I didn’t come to You sooner—too caught up in all the confusion, I guess.

It’s been quite a day—actually quite a week. So much has been going on. So many loose ends. I was feeling like an old, frayed shag rug until You came on the scene and settled me down. Now I feel as placid as a deep, glassy mountain lake.

Lord, I want You to know that I don’t take this peace for granted. I know that it comes from knowing You are in control of my life. When I come to You and give You my concerns, You take them and then say, “I’ve taken care of everything. Stay—rest a moment in My presence.”

I know that this peace I’m feeling was bought at a staggering price, and yet, it’s free to me for the asking. Thank You for letting me take it with me as I leave this sacred place and step back into the world.

God is a tranquil being and abides in a tranquil eternity. So must your spirit become a tranquil and clear little pool, wherein the serene light of God can be mirrored. —Gerhard Tersteegen

  1. Beautiful post and prayer, Anna. Praying you continue to feel His peace, as well as a measure of His strength and comfort in the days when you’re struggling. Gentle hugs to you 🙂
